State Chamber of Commerce Members Elect Eight New Board Members
The membership of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, a Trenton-based business advocacy group, recently elected eight new members to its Board of Directors.
The new members elected to three year terms include: Rafael Cuellar, president & CEO, Cuellar LLC dba, Shop Rite of Passaic/Clifton; Orlando C. Esposito, corporate banking regional manager, PNC Bank; Gary S. Horan, president & CEO, Trinitas Health and Hospital; Stephen E. Morgan, president, JCP&L – A FirstEnergy Company; and Robert E. Sell, managing partner & COO, Accenture’s North America Communications and Hi Tech operating unit.
Elected to fill two-year unexpired terms are John A. Papa, treasurer, Johnson & Johnson; Richard H. Walker, Jr., Esq., senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, South Jersey Industries, Inc.; and Elaine R. McHale, Esq., senior vice president & assistant general counsel, AT&T, Enterprise Services, Inc. Also appointed to the Board is Christopher Phelan, president, Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce and NJ Association of Chamber Executives.
“New Jersey is facing many challenges and we look forward to working with our Board members on developing solutions to the state’s problems,” said Joan Verplanck, president of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
Cuellar – Cuellar served a previous six-year term on the Chamber board. Before his current position, Cuellar was president & CEO of ECO & Sons, Inc. since 1996. He was responsible for business conducted by the holding company as well as its subsidiaries – President Caterers, LatinoNetShopper.Com. Esposito - Esposito has 24 years of banking experience, the last 18 with PNC Bank. He began his professional career with the international CPA firm of Touche Ross Co., where he became a licensed CPA.
Horan – Horan serves as Trinitas Health and Hospital’s president & CEO. The hospital is a 531-bed two-hospital system as a result of a merger between St. Elizabeth Hospital, Elizabeth General Medical Center, and Alexian Brothers Hospital.
McHale – McHale is senior vice president & assistant general counsel of AT&T Enterprise Services, Inc. She is responsible for supporting the sales of AT&T’s communications services to its largest business customers, representing approximately $18 billion to the firm.
Morgan – Morgan is president of Jersey Central Power & Light, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. JCP&L has more than one million customers in a 3,200-square-mile service area in Central and Northern New Jersey.
Papa – Papa joined Johnson & Johnson in 1978 and has held a variety of positions within the company. He is currently treasurer of Johnson & Johnson and his responsibilities include worldwide Finance & Banking, Pension Funds, Risk Management, Savings Plan/extra compensation, and Finance Corporation.
Phelan- Phelan is the newly elected president to New Jersey Association of Chamber Executives. He also serves as the president of the Middlesex County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Sell – Sell has operating responsibility and oversight for a $2 billion operating unit of client activity ranging in services from high value consulting to business process outsourcing. He oversees a group of 300 partners and roughly 2,500 consultants that within the North American marketplace provide consulting and outsourcing services to Fortune 100 companies that operate in the communications, hi tech and media industries.
Walker – Since 1979 Walker has held various supervisory and managerial positions with South Jersey Industries, Inc. and its subsidiaries. Currently, he is vice president, general counsel & secretary and provides corporate counsel to all subsidiaries. The State Chamber Board of Directors is responsible for providing the guidance necessary to develop proactive solutions to confront the important issues facing New Jersey’s business community. It is the mission of the board of directors to promote a vibrant business environment and economic prosperity through vision, expertise and innovative solutions.
An initiative that has been spearheaded by the New Jersey Chamber Board of Directors is the Platform for Progress campaign. This campaign seeks to raise the awareness of six key issue areas affecting New Jersey. These issue areas include economic development, education, environment, government reform, health care, and transportation.
