The 75th Annual Walk to Washington and Congressional Dinner on Jan. 26 and 27 brought to Washington a who's who of New Jersey business and government leaders, all of whom participated in what The Star-Ledger called the Walk to Washington's "time-honored exercise in extreme networking."
The festivities began as the Chamber's chartered Amtrak rolled through New Jersey, picking up hundreds of guests along the way. The trip hit a crescendo when the train reached the nation's capital and more than 800 guests gathered at the Marriott Wardman Park for the Congressional Dinner and a keynote address by Gov. Chris Christie.
Gov. Christie suggested the Chamber's annual Congressional Dinner - and its keynote speech - is like a state of the state address for New Jersey's economy. "Tonight is always a point of marking for the business community of our state," Gov. Christie said in his address. "The year really does not begin until the Chamber dinner in Washington when we gather together to review the last year and to look ahead - at least now - hopefully with promise to what New Jersey's future can once again be."
The activities in Washington included an exhibit by the New Jersey Hall of Fame; music by New Jersey artists; and an insightful reporters' roundtable with some of the state's top working journalists.
A special thanks to our guests; Congressmen Chris Smith, Rodney Frelinghuysen and Leonard Lance; our state legislators; and Gov. Christie and his cabinet members for attending.
The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce invited business people from across the state to ride the Chamber's train to Washington and attend the Congressional Dinner as a way to show support for the state's pro-growth agenda.
